FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New York - February 20, 2024
The World Roma Federation (WRF) is pleased to announce that its advocacy efforts are making a significant impact at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF). Deny Dobobrov, Director of International Relations and Policy for the WRF, delivered a powerful statement at the UNHQ in New York on February 20, 2024, highlighting key priorities and recommendations for enhancing the effectiveness of ECOSOC and HLPF.
In his statement, Dobobrov emphasized the need for inclusive participation and representation, particularly for marginalized communities like the Roma. He called for greater transparency, accountability, and the incorporation of diverse perspectives to create more equitable and effective international economic and social cooperation frameworks.
Dobobrov's recommendations included utilizing the momentum of the SDG Summit 2023 and the Summit of the Future to strengthen ECOSOC, creating dedicated platforms for dialogue between ECOSOC and non-state actors, and prioritizing SDGs that address inequalities, such as SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities).
The WRF urges co-facilitators and member states to consider these recommendations to ensure that the review processes lead to a more inclusive, effective, and impactful ECOSOC and HLPF. By doing so, significant strides can be made towards achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in a manner that leaves no one behind.
The World Roma Federation is committed to advocating for the rights and recognition of the Romani people globally and will continue to work towards creating a more just, open society that promotes liberty, equality, and community for all.
