The World Roma Federation (WRF) stands as a prominent and respected international organization, duly registered as an AISBL in Belgium, thereby legitimizing its operations across the European Union. In addition to its extensive reach within the EU, the WRF also holds special consultative status within the United Nations system, further extending its influence on a global scale. With offices strategically situated in New York, Chicago, Serbia, and Hungary, and satellite offices throughout the world. The organization seeks to promote collaboration and maintain close ties with local member organizations and representatives. The WRF's primary focus is tailored towards countries with significant Roma populations, striving to support these communities by fostering positive change and amplifying their voices on pressing concerns that impact their lives. As an important spearhead in empowering Roma communities worldwide, the World Roma Federation works tirelessly to bridge existing gaps, unite diverse populations, and ensure that the best interests of its constituents are always placed at the forefront of international dialogue.
As an organization with special consultative status within the United Nations system, the World Roma Federation (WRF) is committed to upholding the principles of the UN Charter. This includes respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, as well as promoting non-interference in their internal affairs. The WRF also recognizes the importance of respecting human rights and fundamental freedoms and advocating for the equal rights of all peoples and their right to self-determination. In all its activities, the WRF strives to operate within this framework and promote these principles.
The World Roma Federation represents the interests of the Roma people worldwide. The organization has a democratic structure and is governed by an executive board. The Community of the World Roma Federation can vote on policies and elect a representative in their respective countries to serve within the steering committee, which is still under development.
The World Roma Federation is actively pursuing validation and acknowledgment for its members as a Stateless Nation under the principles of self-determination, adhering to international legal norms and human rights requirements. Crucial support comes from the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights (ICESCR), the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, Convention on the Rights of the Child, General Comment No. 12, ILO Convention No. 169, Declaration on the Rights of Persons Belonging to National or Ethnic, Religious and Linguistic Minorities, EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, and Copenhagen Criteria for EU Accession.
